"An English Family"
They came to Ontario, where Catherine's younger brother James had settled 10 years earlier. They visited James in Wilmot Township, but decided not to purchase property there because it was too heavily wooded. They chose instead to buy an existing farm of 250 acres, of which 150 was already cleared, in Beverly Township, not far from Galt. The property included a tavern. Their son Edwin became a merchant in the village of Sheffield, which is located in Beverly Township, between Galt and Hamilton. His business was carried on by his son Albert Edward, who was followed by his son Albert Earl. Which "A.E." was running the store when the above photo was taken is not known (the triangular sign on the roof says: "A.E. Bond, General Merchant, Sheffield"). Their son Henry was a farmer in Beverly, William a farmer in North Dumfries Township, Richard and John both farmers in Puslinch Township, and James a farmer in Barton Township, close to Hamilton. North Dumfries, Puslinch and Barton all border Beverly. Another son, Josiah, or possibly Joseph, may have been a Hotel keeper in Windham Township.
Richard and Catherine are buried, along with Edwin, in Sheffield cemetery. Their family maintained a presence in Beverly at least up to the first half of the 20th century.
