"An English Family" Mallett Families These pages deal mostly with my particular branch of the Mallett family, which originates in Devonshire. The earliest forebear I have been able to verify is Humphrey, my GGG Grandfather. His sons James and William both came to Canada about 1831, James to Ontario, and William to Prince Edward Island (PEI). His daughter Catherine, who married Richard Bond, followed her two brothers to Canada about ten years later, also to Ontario. Humphrey's remaining offspring all stayed in England, as far as I know. Their names are Humphrey, John, Henry, and George. Humphrey and George were both farmers, while John was a Jeweller and Watch/Clockmaker, and Henry an Ironmonger. Humphrey and George lived near Langtree in North Devon; John and Henry both lived in Barnstaple. Henry had a rather large family. One of his daughters, Mary Thorne, left England in the 1850's to join Brigham Young and his followers in Utah. It's quite an interesting story. I am descended from the James who came to Ontario in 1831, and most of the information found here deals with his offspring, but I do have some information about each of the other families mentioned above. James' and William's families have spawned other Mallett families all over North America:
