The fact that Edith was born in Chatham, Kent, suggests she was a niece of Margaret Mary's mother Margaret, who was from the same place. In 1891 and 1901 John and Margaret Mallett had Gertrude Hurst living with them, also born in Chatham, Kent, and described in 1901 as a Niece.
