| 794 | South Zeal The Oxenham Arms pub, former home of the Burgoyne family. The Burgoynes had land holdings in the Dartmoor area and in Cornwall around Liskeard. One such property was Tawton Mill on which James Mallett of Spreyton claimed a lease in a legal dispute with the executors of Robert Burgoyne's will in 1710. After the decline of the Burgoyne family fortunes, the Oxenham family then became one of the dominant landholders in the area. |
