    • Returning to the generations before Nicholas and Susanna (Salmon), the Poll list for 1714 shows John Mallet, Tailor, William Mallet, Glover. Nicholas, William's brother would not be shown as he had not been admitted as a Freeman. Also in 1671 Nicholas, William's father, had disposed of his property in the parish of St. Giles (see copy of deed of that date later).

      The family fortunes seem to have recovered somewhat in the next two or three generations. In 1833 William Mallett is shown as paying paving rate in the parish of St. Giles on 118 ft., which is quite a large frontage, perhaps a yard, and this was almost certainly the brother of Nicholas (married to Sara Brereton). Willian's daughter Susannah married Nicholas's son Nicholas.

      Nicholas and Sarah (Brereton) are shown in the 1861 and 1871 Census in Globe Yard, Heigham.

      Their son Nicholas who married his cousin Susannah, the daughter of William, is shown with his family in the 1881 census return for St. Giles. Their close relationship explains why they were married at the Princes St. Chapel.
