    Note
    • The Hearth tax returns show Mary, the widow of William the Glover, paying on two hearths in the parish of St.Andrews, which must be where she brought up the young children of William. Nicholas, the eldest son, inherited property in St. Giles from his grandfather Nicholas, according to a deed of 1644. Deeds also provide information on the other children of William and Mary.

The children of HENRY, Worsted Weaver, were baptised in the parish of St.Peter Parmentergate. This would suggest that, until he acquired his own premises in St. Margarets (deed dated 1698), he carried on his weaving business in the premises left to his mother by his father, William, in his will. In his own will Henry leaves the house and yard in St.Margarets first to his wife for her life and then to his son William with careful proviso that William should not dispose of it, but no mention is made of Henry's son John. It would seem from the marriage register of the Cathedral that Henry's widow, Anne, on the 15th. October, 1706 re-married (to Robert Taylor).

Either John had died or perhaps he was running the yard in St.Peter Parmentergate which was by then the sole property of his uncle William, the glover of Catton, whose own son John was a Tailor, shown in the parish of St. Giles in the 1714 Poll. In 1723 JOHN MALLET, worsted Weaver of St. Julians, was admitted as a Freeman. Perhaps this was Henry's son. Henry had died in 1706, therefore John might not be described as 'son of Henry'. From 1712 onwards the names William and John appear as owners or tenants in the adjacent parishes of St. Peter Parmentergate, St. Julian and St. Peter Southgate until, in 1756, a William is shown as paying tax on 13 windows in Trowse, and on 22nd January, 1770, John Mallet, aged 84, was buried in St. Julians. The latter could be Henry's son. The names of William and John Mallet both occur in the Land Registration and Window Tax returns from 1712 onwards in the parish of St. Peter Parmentergate which would seem to indicate that the brothers were carrying on business in that parish. Another interesting entry in the Cathedral register shows the marriage on 20th June, 1699, of Elizabeth Mallet of Catton to Francis Springhall, journeyman-weaver, both single. In 1735 Nathaniel Springall's name occurs associated with that of William Mallet in the Land Registration and Window Tax returns for St. Peter Parmentergate, suggesting that Elizabeth was the daughter of William Mallet of Catton

The 1714 Poll list shows WILLIAM MALLET, Worsted Weaver in the parish of St. Peter Mancroft and in this parish the name of Tills also occurs, so this William would seem to be the son of HENRY. According to a deed dated 1718 William and his wife, Bridget, and Bridget's sister Abigail sold property in the parish of St. Martin at Palace which had been inherited from Bridget's and Abigail's father, so that it does not seem as though William had his business in that parish although he was of that parish at the time of his marriage in 1709. His father had died in 1706, but if his mother had re-married he may well have left the St. Margaret premises.
