    Note
    • Birth dates of children are taken from the 1901 census. James birthday is listed as 1882, I assumed this to be a mistake and corrected it to 1892. Henrietta is missing from the 1901 census, presumed dead. The boys are shown as part of the Grandfather's household, while William is listed as head of a household of one. These people are Irish Presbyterian and may be buried at "Killean" which is on a corner of the John Gilchrist place.

      1891
      William 29, Henrietta 26, William A (or H) 5, Thomas 4. William is a carpenter.

      1901
William 40, (William) Albert 15, Thomas 13, James 9. The 3 boys are living with the Grandfather. William's farm is only 50 acres but his primary occupation seems to be carpenter. He is listed as an employer.

Henrietta died of "Purulent Peritonitis, one week duration". Peritonitis is an acute inflammation of the abdomen. "Purulent" means full of puss. It is most often caused by a ruptured appendix, but can be a complication arising from childbirth. In Carrie Aiken's obituary, she is said to be a stepmother of 4 children, 2 of whom predeceased her. One of those was a girl, but I don't have any record of a girl (I've only looked at the census). I wonder if Henrietta gave birth to a girl between 1891 and 1896, perhaps died as a result, and then the girl died before the census of 1901.

I am told that the question mark I had on the family tree was Anna Belle, who married Alec Smith, and who had two daughters who live in Galt.
