    • It is suspected that George Mallet was originally from around the Ilfracombe, Devon, England area. In 1834 when he married Mary, George owned/managed a shop in the lower part of High Street, Exeter, although all of their children appear to have been born in North Tawton, where the family of Mary originated. [Source: James White]

      In the 1861 census George's place of birth is listed as Hatherleigh,though he may have in fact been born in Iddesleigh, as suggested by the removal orders for John Mallet and Susanna Paddon who may have been his parents.
