Gender Female Illness - Breast Cancer
As per AF (Aug 16/87): When she got it, they moved from Zion to Miami, Manitoba. The treatment for cancer then, was to put raw beef on the breast, in the hopes that the cancer would transfer to the meat. The night she died, George was busy preaching, just across from his home and he said to a lady staying with Sarah, if there was a change, to put a candle in the window and he would come home. Just as he finished his sermon, he saw the candle and went home.
SW Group 4 UKC 1881 N Immigration Abt 1878 [6] - 1878 from Lincolnshire, England to Zion (here first?)
As per AF (Aug 16/87): At one time Ontario had beautiful white pine and the ship buiilders wanted the pine for masts for the ships, so they would load their boats in England, with rock and come to Canada, dump the rock, get the pine, and return to England. A Bible Christian talked the ship builders into charging and bring immigrants to Canada, instead of stones - and as George was a lay minister of the Bible Christians, that is how he and his family came to Canada. They settled near Port Hope. Later Amy says, she wished she had asked him what it was like coming over in steerage.

- as per an article in the Christian Guardian -
Sarah Ann Jarvis was born on November 2, 1839, in Lincolnshire, England. She was converted to God at Old Leek, near Boston, when 19 years of age, and united with Wesleyan Methodists. In May 1862 she was married to George Corden her now sorrowing husband. Leaving England in 1878, the family came to Canada and settled at Zion, near Port Hope in Ontario. About three years since (ago) she removed to Miami, Manitoba. For 47 years our sister remained a faithful member of the Methodist church. Possessing a kind disposition and being devoted to her Savior, she was much esteemed by her friends and acquaintances. For nine months before her death she was confined to her bed, afflicted with cancer, but in a beautiful spirit of submission she bore her sufferings. On Sabbath evening June 25, 1905, during the hour of divine worship, our sister breathed her last, and gently fell asleep in the arms of Christ. Her last days were peaceful and she triumphantly entered into rest. Her husband, a useful local preacher, three sons, and one daughter mourn the loss of a loving wife and mother.
