- Born March 16th 1924, 4th child Albert & Alice Wilcox (Alice Mallett)
- Attended school in Elkhorn, Man.
- Started working at the age of twelve at the Red & White store, was paid $4.00
per month for the first four years and a dollar increase on the fifth year. I
delivered groceries, filled shelves and clerked after school and all day on
Saturday. I also worked for Bartley's General Store for a few months.
I commenced working for the Canadian Pacific Railway, March 31, 1942 as an
assistant agent at Broadview Sask. Salary $75.00 per month. I worked as an
assistant for a little over a year and then on August 31/43 I was sent out as
a Relief Agent/Operator until I was awarded my first permanent position as
third trick operator at Minnedosa May 1945.
- Following are places I worked at and we lived in.
Saskatchewan: Broadview, Whitewood, Wapella, Windthorst, Wawota, Kennedy,
Antler, Carlyle, Arcola, Marchwell, Maryfield.
Manitoba: Elkhorn, Oak Lake, Souris, Oakriver, Shoal Lake, McTavish, Plum
Coulee, Minnedosa, Lac du Bonnet, Winnipeg.
- Retired as an Assistant Supervisor Customer Service Centre, CP Rail, Winnipeg
April 1983 after 42 years.
- Personal Achievements: Served on Community Committees, was Charter President
Plum Coulee Kinsmen Club, Served three years as councillor and nine months as
Mayor of Lac du Bonnet, prior to being transferred to Winnipeg 1972.
- While at Whitewood Sask. 1944/45 met and married Bertha (Bertie) Ward.
- Family:
Dean born in Minnedosa 1945, Accountant Gimli Auto, Gimli Mb. married to
June, secretary for Seagrams at Gimli. June has two sons.
Grant born in Langenburg, Sask., 1950 Draftsman for Centra Gas, Winnipeg.
Married to Beverley with one child Alana.
Twins born in Morden Mb. 1963
Constance, Supervisor with City of Winnipeg Health, married to Michael
Walker, Lawyer with Legal Aid.
Corene, Administrative Secretary, Manitoba Liquor Control Commission,
Winnipeg, married to Alan Aftanas, Engineer with Seagrams at Gimli, Mb.
- Bertie & I enjoy golfing, curling, cycling, walking and I play slo pitch
softball with the seniors. Bertie works out at the pool. We enjoy travelling
in our motor home having covered most of the USA and Canada.
- Fond memories of helping dad on the Dray delivering coal ($.25 per ton).
Loading butter, unloading empty butter boxes, handling cream cans, hauling
grain and many other chores Dad worked so hard at, starting with horses and
then to his trucks.
