- As per CS :
In 1851 Jane is 11 years old and is a boarder at Woodland School in Brislington. The other people at the school were Mary EVANS (58, the head and school mistress), Mary MATHEWS (39, partner and school mistress), Edward EVANS (47, brother and annuitant), Louisa EVANS (25, niece and teacher), Susan SMITH (76, annuitant), Caroline L. GUARD (25, teacher), Jane DREWELL (23, cook) and Mary A. HAWKER (23, house maid). The other scholars boarding with Jane were Anna CHURCHES (19), Mary KEMBER (14), Charlotte KEEN (14), Eliza J. DAVEY (12), Clara COOK (13), Mary A. PRICE (11), Mary J. L. LEWIS (9), Louisa PRICE (8), James PRICE (7), Mary J. KNIGHT (7), Mary A. RIDLER (8) and William THOMAS (6) (HO107/1944).
I don't know whether the other Price children (Mary, Louisa and James are related to Jane).
My mother rang the Brislington Conservation Society in March 2010. She was told that the school was in Church Parade. The school is no longer there, although the building has been made into flats, which are called Woodlands. The school was a boarding school for young ladies. We were surprised that an Inn Keeper would send their daughter to a boarding school, but were told that William Price would have wanted his daughter Jane to do well and 'further herself', so it was not an unusual practice.
