It was built c.1845 by Richard Mann and the 5 storeys were about 45 feet high with a ground floor diameter of 17 feet. The boat shaped cap with a gallery held a 6 bladed fantail, underneath wasthe striking chain wheel and tailpole. The four double shuttered sails drove 2 pairs of stones. The 1845 tithe award gives Richard Mann as both owner and occupier,however the first miller listed was John Browning Mallett who appeared in Kelly's Directory of 1846. source :http://www.norfolkmills.co.uk/Windmills/wicklewood-high-st-towermill.html His youngest son Earnest must have been injured in an accident at his father's mill as he is shown as having no leg and his thigh wasted atthe time of the 1881 census. John was a farmer and flour dealer atthat time, eventually moving to Plumstead in Kent.
