- By the age of 25 years, Charles Mallett had enlisted in the Coldstream Guards and was stationed at Marlborough Barracks in Aldershot as a Private in the Second Battalion.
Charles served in the First World War and married his wife, Elizabeth Whalley, while on leave, by which time he had been promoted to Sergeant. He was subsequently promoted to Warrant Officer before he retired.
