    • All of the known children were living at home. There is a substantial gap in age between Frank and Lilly - 8 years, because 3 tiny ones were born, but died, between them. Joshua is a Draper, Frank is a Draper's Apprentice, Lilly, George, and Florence are attending school. Joshua's cousin Matilda Avery, and unmarried Annuitant, is living with them.

    • Joshua was still a Draper, George was then a Draper's Apprentice, and Florence, Blanche, and Hettie were going to school.
      Frank was married and had a family of his own, living in Bideford and working as a Draper.

      Caroline Robins, niece, a Milliner's Assistant, lived with them. She was the daughter of Matilda's sister Mary Hannah Mallett and John Robins. Caroline's mother died in 1876, and it seems likely that her father died sometime between 1881 and 1891, since Caroline was with the Heywoods and her sister Mary was with her uncle William Mallett in Cornwall at the same time.

      Joshua was still in the Draper's trade, and was an employer. The family had a visitor, Leonard S Lyle, 22, born in Barnstaple, a "Gentleman's Outfitter".

    • This family was taken from the 1881 census. Matilda was born at the right time and the right place to be the correct person. She was the only Matilda from Langtree in that timeframe according to the 1851 census. The fact the family lives in Bideford provides added weight because that's where the family was in 1851.

      There was a cousin living with the family: Matilda Avery, 31, born in Bulkworthy, Devon.

      Joshua Heywood was a Draper. Frank was a Draper's apprentice.
