    • Joseph Mallett, age 20, single, Labourer, left Liverpool, England on this date aboard the ship "Teutonic", bound for New York, USA. The trip was scheduled to last 24 days.

There is no information in the ship's manifest that proves without doubt that the Joseph Mallett listed is this Joseph, but the year of birth fits, and we know that he came to the USA somewhere during this time period.

Immigration Abt 12 May 1894  New York, USA Find all individuals with events at this location  [9
    • This record of the arrival of the ship Teutonic in New York provides additional evidence that the Joseph Mallett who was aboard is indeed this Joseph. The age was given as 20 as in the departure manifest in Liverpool, but this time his place of residence was given, and transcribed as "St Heot", probably a mistranscription of "St Neot", his birthplace in Cornwall.
Departure 8 May 1897  Liverpool, Lancashire, England Find all individuals with events at this location  [10

Census 15 Apr 1910  Hammond Ward 1, Lake County, Indiana, USA Find all individuals with events at this location  [11
    • Joseph gave his year of immigration as 1882, or possibly 1887, but there is evidence that he was still in England at either date, and at most he would have only been 13 years old at the time of his immigration, which seems highly unlikely.

The family was living in the same house as Ida's sister Elizabeth (married to Peter Sarson) and brother Adolph Peters.
    Occupation 15 Apr 1910  [11
    Carpenter.
Military Service Abt 1917  Hammond, Lake County, Indiana, USA Find all individuals with events at this location  [3
    • Joseph was drafted into the US Military sometime in either 1917 or 1918. He quite clearly signed his middle name as "Edmond". His wife Ida was listed as next of kin.
Census 1 Jan 1920  Hammond, Lake County, Indiana, USA Find all individuals with events at this location  [12
    • Again, Joseph gave his year of immigration as improbably early, this time 1886, but his year of naturalization as 1896, which is more in keeping with what is known of his early years.
    Occupation 1 Jan 1920  [12
    Carpenter.
